Soprano Peyee Chen (b. Taipei, Taiwan, 1986) received her Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University in 2008, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Vocal Studies with Dr. John Potter at the University of York. Her research interests include florid ornamentation of early music and solo, unaccompanied contemporary music for voice. Recent projects include performing Feldman’s Three Voices, Berio’s Sequenza III, and Finnissy’s Song 1 and Song 16.
Highlights this year include performing the role of Flores in the modern premier of the anonymous Jesuit pastorale Daphnis, singing first soprano in a newly edited version of Allegri and Bai’s Miserere at the National Early Music Association Conference, and performing in Berio’s Sinfonia. Peyee has been a regular soloist for the Northwestern University Baroque Music Ensemble, and has also performed with the Chicago-based ensemble dal niente. At Northwestern University, she performed the role of Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogue des Carmélites and was an understudy for the role of Sandrina in Piccinni’s La Buona Figliuola. Peyee is currently a member of the all-female contemporary vocal ensemble Ergodos Voices.
